Surveys from 1,601 respondents were analyzed for this Special Report. The survey included the 25-item Resilience Scale (RS), and questions on age, gender, education, self-reported health status, and frequency of depression symptoms. Only surveys from respondents who were 18 years and older were included for analysis.
As
with many prior studies, RS scores decreased as reports of depression
increased, and RS scores increased as age increased. Mean scores for the
two RS factors (Acceptance of Self and Life and Personal Competence)
were calculated for the total sample as well as by health status and
self-reported depression. The findings from this report strengthen and
support the internal consistency reliability of the RS as well as the
construct validity of the RS.
